When Gardiner Greene Hubbard and Alexander Graham Bell and 31 other prominent scholars and scientists helped establish the National Geographic Society in 1888, the vision was bold yet simple: knowledge about the world should be shared with the world.
The Society wasn’t just about publishing maps or journals. It was about sparking curiosity, funding expeditions, and inviting people everywhere to see themselves as explorers of this planet.
Today, the Society remains one of the world’s most recognized communities of explorers, photographers, scientists, and storytellers. And at its core, it still carries the same belief that began in 1888: the world becomes richer when discovery is shared.
